There is a type of barbecue cuisine that exceeds all others in terms of sheer quantity and breadth of meats that tantalize your taste buds and make you death-full: Brazilian BBQ.
There are two main Brazilian BBQ in Calgary, namely, Gaucho’s and Bolero’s, both are located minutes from each other on Macleod Trail South.
My wife and I have frequented Bolero’s twice now, the first time, I had forgotten to write-up a review and take photos, but this past Tuesday, I remembered to bring along my camera as we dove into the delightful meaty offerings at Bolero’s.
The concept is simple: you can pay for the full meal experience of having a server come by and cut up and serve their offerings to you or you can pay for a smaller selection of several cuts of meat or you can select to only dine at the salad bar only. (The salad bar is offered to all customers in all three situations).
While the full meal experience costs $40, it is well worth it if you are willing to try various cuts of meat and different food offerings from the grill.
When you arrive at the table, you will notice an interesting little cylindrical block that is green, yellow, and red coloured to simulate a traffic light. When the wooden block shows the green side up, that means servers will continuously come to your table to offer you their grilled delights. When the wooden block is flipped onto the other red side up, it signals to the servers that you are not interested in receiving the next item yet.
So… what’s good to eat?
I recommend the following cuts as they come around:
- Parmesan crusted Fraldinha
- Bacon wrapped filet mignon
- Bacon wrapped chicken
- Red wine marinated Fraldinha
These were delectable! Every bit juicy and succulent!
And of course, the crème de la crème at Bolero’s, their famous grilled pineapple! YOU MUST TRY THIS… it is phenomenal.
If you haven’t had Brazilian BBQ yet, try either Gaucho’s or Bolero’s, both have great reviews in Calgary. It’s a great date night out or even a night out with the guys.
Until next time!
Eat. Cook. Enjoy!
